Our team reimagined Millwood and Carlyle Parks in Kitchener, Ontario, to align with climate adaptation goals and improve ecological health. Through innovative water management, habitat design, and public-use enhancements, we transformed these parks into vibrant community spaces that balance environmental benefits with cultural heritage. Our vision created a unique identity for the parks, fostering a deeper connection between the community, the watershed, and its vital stormwater features.
This project addresses the Industrial Urban Heat Island effect by incorporating green roofs and engineered drainage systems to manage surface runoff effectively. These interventions reduce heat impacts while creating restorative spaces that enhance the well-being of blue-collar workers. The design also extends its impact by supporting the revitalization of Schneider Creek, integrating upland site improvements with ecological restoration and cultural shifts, creating a sustainable connection between industrial areas and natural systems.
